The continuously mineralized platinum palladium intersections on Lac Des Isle have not been exceeded. Most people report in total PGMS today too. Just like a lot of people report in combined nickel copper, which makes no sense today. Perhaps it did in 1968. .07 PGM's in that day was worth about 20 dollars CDN. They built the mine on that and paid the bills. Some of the stuff ran .12 ounces per ton over good widths, so it was not that bad. Sheridan told me himself that one needed 40 dollar rock to make it pay and that was what they tried to mine at the beginning.

You won't get any arguments from me about Sudbury rock being hard as the hubs of hell. I heard about drill bits on dd's lasting 35 feet in the norite. Most gold ore is highly carbonated and is easy stuff to drill, but some is really bad. The Buffalo Ankerite mine had grades of .60 ounces per ton, but had a hard time making ends meet because their tourmalinized veins wore the equipment out pronto.

If your rock is that hard to drill, you should be using Diamet (fr.) silver bits, or better grade. Russian industrial diamonds will last 5 times longer than the crap you buy from Schmidt, Longyear or other domestics. Fagersta and Secoroc are as low quality as you can go. Worst steel and bits on the market. Only reason Noranda buys them and falco is Noranda owns the companies and Falco too. Ajax and other Brit manufactures make stuff that is perhaps a muttiple of the quality of the Fagersta stuff. Fag steel is downright dangerous.
