We are primarily living longer on the average because of better treatment of foodstuffs, better working conditions, better city water, better sanitary conditions and waste handling, and lower infant mortality. In short it is due to better public health.

But the maximum age of life or the lifespan is not increasing. And the average lifespan is not getting much better than it was in 1930 in western countries. In Biblical times a man's span was given as 3 score and 10, or 70 years. Today CDN lifespan is 72 years. If you get to 50 your chances of reaching 72 in any country in the world are about equal. The difference is infant and child mortality.

But this is due to change. Right now we are the first generation that has lived its entire life ingesting 100 kinds of insecticides. By the 1960's most of us had portions of our cells that were plastics, or that were hydrocarbon chemicals that imitated hormones and human enzymes. This was from the insecticide and herbecide that we could not wash off our food. The reason for these chemicals was so large scale agribiz could produce larger yields of their ever lower food-value hybrid crops on their ever-more meagre soils. The food is lousy, and laced with poison. Cancer is epidemic in our generation. It is now the leading killer of people. Farmers tell me they see cancer in young animals that they never saw when they were children. What is affecting the animals will soon be seen to affect us anomalously and be proclaimed epidemic. We know Cancer is environmental. We can cure it by changing our environment.

The statistics will change. Hopefully soon too so will the agricultural practices and the death rates from Cancer.
