We'll be out of Iraq in a year or two. The Iraqis will have their own government, hopefully a democratic one, but that'll be up to them.

This is not the definition of "imperialism" which implies a permanent presence intended to subjugate or control a people.

Yeah, we'll be out of Iraq in a couple years, just like we'll find WMDs. Not! Another lie to string the American people along as we take over Iraqs oil fields. Even if we do eventually hand over the Iraqi government to the Iraqi's, it will probably just be another puppet government like so many puppet regimes that we've installed and supported in the world. They won't dare do anything ambitious, like try to take their oil resources back again by nationalizing them like Iran tried to do in the early 1950s. Which gave them the brutal and despotic U.S. installed and supported Shah for 3 decades. The U.S. will be in control of Iraq one way or another for decades to come until the oil runs out. Perhaps not imperialism in the classical sense, but imperialism none the less. It's all about expanding our sphere of influence to regions with resources we want, like oil.

You are a fool. That is not the plan at all. We are permanently garrisoning Iraq.
