I have no clue. It sounds out of character for State to be cracking down on SA's educational craziness; or for anyone in the SA government to be asking their opinion, for that matter.

It was rejected, with Saudi authorities asked to prepare another one which removes any teachings about jihad and anti-Christian and Jewish sentiment. Saudi Arabia has also been directed to stop its institutional support of various charity organizations that are suspected of channeling funds to jihad, or Islamic struggle, organizations.

If true, do you think it's indicative that the Bush administration is pushing the Saudis to make a choice between tolerating militancy, and facing a distancing in US support for their regime?

The Saudis can't truly survive without the implicit support of the US.. But they might try and reach out to China, Russia, or even France..

But would any of those regimes wish to become the new target of militant wrath against the corrupt Saudi royalty?

Interesting events, and IMO, brinksmanship with regard to how far we're willing to push the Saudis to reform.
