Merry Christmas to you, as well, Lizzie, and to everybody.

In the interest of providing something different for this special day, here's a video that Leo DiCaprio has just produced based on the work of Thom Hartmann.

AOL CENSORING POLITICAL SPEECH?

I'm wondering if any here can confirm this message about political censorship:

AOL's spam filtering is becoming political filtering.
From RISKS digest:

Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 12:02:41 -0500
From: (name withheld to protect the innocent, Aschroft take note)
Subject: AOL now filtering based on whether they like embedded URLs

I just got this bounce message. I was mailing a friend of mine the URL of a MOVEON.ORG Web site that's asking people to rate TV ads on effectiveness, etc., at conveying the downside of GW Bush's policies. AOL won't even deliver the message. Apparently, since the URL has generated complaints (presumably from Bush supporters or current Govt. employees), I'm not even allowed to tell AOL users about it.

RISKS: AOL can decide they don't like a particular URL, for instance, of a topic or candidate or public opinion poll that they disapprove of, and voila -- several million people now can't even be told about that page! In this particular case, it's hard to imagine who would complain about it other than people trying to get the page banned because it doesn't agree with their political views.

The offending URL (which I highly recommend) is double-u, double-u, double-u, bush in 30 seconds dot org.

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors --<....-at-aol.com> (reason: 554 TRANSACTION FAILED: (HVU:B1) The URL contained in your email to AOL members has generated a high volume of complaints.?? Per our Unsolic)

Personal note: This is a great site that I visit daily to vote on ad candidates. I think it's a novel idea and a lot of talented people have submitted their ads. I hope they make many ads and don't burn people out by replaying the same ad too many times. I hope they saturate the airwaves around Bush state-of-the-disunion message.

Dizzie, your link broke. Here's what else the Harris Poll said:

A Harris Poll conducted before and after the announcement of the capture of Saddam Hussein on the morning of December 14th finds that the good news gave a significant boost to the approval ratings of four key cabinet members. Comparing their ratings in the first part of the poll, which was conducted by telephone on December 10 to 13, with the second part, conducted on December 14 to 16, we found that:

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s ratings improved from 47% positive, 44% negative to 57% positive and 38% negative.
Attorney General John Ashcroft’s ratings improved from 41% positive, 45% negative to 51% positive, 37% negative.
Secretary of State Colin Powell’s ratings improved from 66% positive, 27% negative to 74% positive, 22% negative.
Vice President Dick Cheney’s ratings improved from 36% positive, 49% negative to 42% positive, 47% negative.

BTW, the Gallop Poll shows Bush's approval rating at 63% now, up from 50% before Thanksgiving. Ho ho ho to you, too.

PS: You might want to let the people at Harris know that the vice presidency is not a cabinet post.
