Dinnertime, gotta go. Before leaving, I want to underline my agreement with Nadine's point, that it is unconventional weapons that we are concerned with, not primarily conventional arms, and therefore "industrial capacity" is not a strong factor. Also, as Brumaire points out, the primary targets of the Iraqis were regional, and, in that regard, it had plenty of firepower to create mischief, especially on the Arabian peninsula. Did we want Saddam to control most Middle East oil? Did we want a war, and perhaps a genocidal attack, on Israel? How much chaos in the region is tolerable, before it spills over into world economic chaos, genocide, and an increase in terrorism?
