Ray, you are still fighting 19th century wars. The normal state was hierarchical pecking order from Pharaoah, or chief, to slave, with all to the most powerful and only enough trickle down to keep the serfs in order. With democracy, that state was destroyed. The mob clusters and votes around the peak of The Bell Curve. There's no escape from the mob. In some countries, they've voted for 98% taxes on rich people, [such as Britain during the peak of the British Disease epidemic]. It doesn't work out well for the people at the bottom of the heap, or those around the centre of the bell curve, so they ditched it, after a while. India is still labouring under old-Labour British Marxist/socialist/class war economic and social theories, so they continue to vote to remain poor. One day they'll figure it out. Here in Beijing, I can report the rich zooming ahead to obscene wealth, but without a democratic restraint. This place makes capitalist USA look like a socialist, nanny-state, pussy cat. The elite shopping centres are materialistic centres of narcissistic hedonism, with Little Emperors mimicking [as best they can] the Rolex-lugging, Lexus driving [though most prefer the Audi A5], brand-boasting mindless trendies of the capitals of the Wealthy White World [WWW] and reflected in the advertisements with European models displaying the heights of Oriental aspiration, which looks remarkably similar to the Occidental aspiration peaks. Being mates with government authorities is no doubt the road to success. Though success on the road is a bicycle, with the Audis stuck in jams while we cyclists happily spin along the flat terrain in our own wide lanes. Segway, at a reasonable price, would be great for Beijing. Rental Segways, parked everywhere, with gpsOne location, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO -linked rental payments by users. The rental owner would enable the Segway when an authorized user logged on. I think I should invest in a piece of the action. Well, I already have. CDMA is so cool, though at present only in the introductory stages. When 3GSM or CDMA2000 with 1xEV-DO is available, China is going to go nuts over it. This cyberwar room I'm in has got about 100 young people wasting a sunny day indoors killing each other, and people around the world, via cyberspace. They'll love mobile cyberspace too. Everyone has a na-na cuddly blanket cellphone and clicks away on it or talks on it when they aren't busy with something. From the front lines, Mqurice [Self propulsion is good in winter = keep warm and free exercize. Segway in summer would be good. Pollution free, quick and safe. If people dressed warmly, Segway would be good in winter too [with anti-skid tyres to work on ice].
