U.S. has the highest number of divorces in the world per capita. And I'm talking about between men and women divorces. So don't freaking tell me about the farce of marriage.

""The purpose of marriage is to provide a secure environment for raising a family. ""
But gay couples do have kids. Lesbians like any other women and male couple can adopt(legally).
Than why should not we give them all benefits of the marriage?
Still I think this ? should be decided by the majority of people in each state not by liberal judges

yeah I agree, us non-Bush people have to focus on reality. Bush will use this ridiculous, unimportant gay marriage card as a way to divert attention from the real issues where he has failed miserably... economy, deficit, war planning.

The dems need to try to come up with a way to deflect the gay marriage issue that is not threatening to mom and pop. My suggestion would be, when it comes up and Dean is asked about it (or Clark or whoever the nomination is)- they should make it a "states rights" issue. Just explain that there are northern states who want it and you southern guys can have it your way... case closed on the gay marriage detraction angle coming from the Bush white house.

Some people are going to freak out if gay marriage becomes possible for anyone, but those people are in the bible belt and will probably vote Bush anyway. I say give up on the south, just skirt these divisive issues.

The other political hot potato which can really hurt bush everywhere but the south is the PBA ban with no provision for life of mother. There is a great photo with Bush signing this bill and a bunch of old fat republican men looking on, not a woman in sight. There are certainly some votes to be had on this divisive issue, but not in the South. Forget the south imho.
