You can correct me if I'm wrong, but considering your longtime role here as the primary "it's all about oil" advocate, I find your "whacko" line a bit ironic.

As near as I can tell, Iraq is a mess, and not getting better. The Kurds are ok, but they were more or less ok before the war too, and what they want most of all is their own country. The Sunnis are now the subject of tried-and-true Israeli tactics on the "hearts and minds" front, I doubt if they'll be coming around any time soon. The Sunnis apparently want religious leadership. And as near as I can tell, the only plan the Cheney/Rumsfeld crew has is some Chalabi variant or other. I see the need for some new thinking there, but I imagine most of what we'll be seeing in the months to come is more feel-good propaganda and whining about the "liberal media". Too bad.
