Building the wall seems to be the best of a bad lot of choices for Israel. Trouble is, the Pals are never going to be any kind of self-sufficient because they are the mothers of all welfare queens - just look at what they get from the UN, the Euros and Saudi Arabia!

Second, they are desperate to keep up the intifada even though it's not working (at least for goal 1: destroying Israel. Even a partial Israeli withdrawal from a few settlements and they can say it worked for "occupation"). Because as soon as the intifada officially stops, the civil war begins. So they will keep trying for a mega-attack, which they've been trying for all along (you don't hear about it because they haven't succeeded so far. They always get a free pass on attempts). When it happens, they will get shelled, and wail about being helpless victims. Classic enabling situation. This bleeding goes on an on because world opinion handcuffs Israeli response and prevents a regular war, even a regular guerilla war, which would be short. If you doubt that, just imagine if they were trying this intifada against any Arab state - and imagine the response.
