I did miss your point, and I do agree that the corporate crony wing has co-opted the media and actively buries the freedom of press that we were lucky to experience in the Nixon era. Let's not ever get to the point where we see that as an aberration. It is critical to get that back, but we're going to need a real maverick to figure out how to gain balance with the overwhelming advantage being exercised by the Money Power. This isn't going to change much in the short run leading up to the elections. At least people are finally talking about it, as well as the RWE manipulation of language in the media that they've worked on doggedly for the past 25 years. But I wouldn't dismiss the polls as reasonable bellwethers of perception that become converted to the reality of actions (votes). Otherwise, you're reduced to a small set of anecdotes, colored by your own exposure and experience, to try to understand this crazy country. It's not easy to be frequently blasted with the realization that idiocy reigns in those bizzare red states on the map. I should know, having gratefully fled them years ago. Nader blithely ignored the polls showing the tight, tight race, and led us to an illegitimate presidency in 2000. McCain subsumed his ego to a cause, knowing his votes could spoil his side's chances in a flawed system that permits no runoffs to encourage third parties. I'd guess the Florida repubs were following the polls closely too when they took advantage of every shady edge like purging legitimate black voters from the rolls, enough to make the margin of difference. Are polls used honorably ? Maybe not, but they can make a difference. So what did we get ? Four years of neofascist corporate cronyism cloaked behind a happy face and disinformation crafted to fool and ravage the middle class. Now should they win again, the judicial branch will belong to these elites and culturally closed-minded nuts for an era. That makes this election critical, and it hinges on the votes of the average dupes who are lapping it up in their spoon fed soundbytes. bushclown landing on the carrier. bushclown smoking them out of their holes. bushclown barking with a bullhorn while the volunteers inhale the toxic dust that cheney's EPA lied about. Jesus, how stupid has this place become ? It's really quite nauseating. The past votes of these John Waynenabees and today's polls show that the demos had better run the right candidate for this environment, regardless of the agendas that you think lie behind these published polls. I'll find no satisfaction in supporting a losing battle just because it aligns with a larger portion of my ideals, when we can boot the bushclown for good by making the smart choices.
