Give me a break. I laughed when I read it because it if the classic Liberal argument. JohnM has stated it again and again. They don't want to admit that the Conservatives in the South had known for years they were in the wrong party. It was a seismic shift that happened as much for that reason as any other. But the Liberals seize on the fact that at the start racism had a lot to do with it. The treatment of Trent Lott by the conservative Republicans shows that is not the deciding factor anymore. Are there racists in the Republican party? Of course! And there are many among the Democrats. The biggest users of the race card today are the Liberals.
