I found the page from where you got that, but it is incompatible with my browser, won't display its text - techcentralstation.com

You think me 'conservative'? .... hmm, well that is the new name of the party i will likely support here, if they don't screw up too much, and it's true there are things i'd like to conserve ... there's things i'd liberally trash too though, and some of them have been labelled 'conservative' in the past, rightly or wrongly ... maybe better to avoid the little boxes ['on a hillside, and they're all made out of tickey-tackey, and they all look just the same' - Phil Ochs]

That being said, Burke was a whig -g- ... i've quoted him way upthread, in puncturing certain illusions widely held in the US regarding the nature of the troubles, and particularly the nature of disputing parties, in the 1770s thirteen colonies [speaking of the devil of false labelling, eh] ..... here is a bit of him that could profitably be repeated to the neocons, pretending as they are to the same delusions of adequacy that North and the third George did, and being in the same position as they are in regards to the colonies/independent democracies -

' Let the colonies always keep the idea of their civil rights associated with your
government-they will cling and grapple to you, and no force under heaven will be of
power to tear them from their allegiance. But let it be once understood that your
government may be one thing and their privileges another, that these two things
may exist without any mutual relation - the cement is gone, the cohesion is
loosened, and everything hastens to decay and dissolution.... '
