WOW! The 1985-7 drop in the dollar was *huge*. Of course, we weren't running the current account deficit that we have now, so foreign "investment" wasn't nearly as important then. Today we can't survive without vast infusions of foreign capital every single day.

Thanks for the chart. More to ponder, given that this years' decline, while large, is still dwarfed by 1985-7.
