Jewel, I think that depends on the religion. My childhood religion taught me that we had a duty to share our last crumb with the less fortunate and that a rich man's chances of getting into heaven were slim to none. Poverty was considered holy, intentional poverty, that is, and poverty by happenstance was blessed. There was never any emphasis on self reliance, only charity. I grew up with the understanding that capitalism was sinful and that socialism was the way of God.

"Major religions on the other hand, do recognize the benefits, rewards and disparities that exist among human beings."

And the inequality of people, and the justification for tributes of one kind or another for a candle or a prayer or a secret alliance or sexual piccadilloes!

And what do your long beards know about death that you do not?? :-) Not a God Damn Thing! If you think differently, then you are naive. Talk to some of the millions of refugees from religious persecution who escaped all that controlling crap!

WHAT! All the trillions of people who have died are watching us? The trillions of other lives that die in every square meter of the Earth per minute are not? When people die their memories are restored (for some unaccountable reason) and they can then be the same self-seeking bastards they always were?

I can surely understand how they would want it so. But I cannot understand how anyone could be so selfish or terrified as to embrace such an imaginary belief without one single solitary sniff of probative suggestion...
