W went to the UN to get political cover for war decisions that had already been made. It was just part of the marketing plan. Why you continue to bleat on and on about it is unclear.

US public opinion was solidly behind taking action in Iraq ONLY IF BUSH GOT THE UN TO BACK THE INVASION -- Bush had no choice but to show up and go through the motions. At no time did the UN Security Council agree to any resolution authorizing the US to invade Iraq -- much less to depose Saddam and set up a US-run puppet government. Bush did everything possible to avoid and then harm the UN while doing what was required to appease US public opinion.
