Utter nonsense. Republicans have frequently spent more during their admins than Dems. They just spend it on guns and not on butter, on their cohorts and not on those in real need.

Shrubbery is an excellent example of spending a surplus into a humongous deficit. Of course he's ran two companies into the ground before becoming a millionaire off the public teat.

Republicans have become gargantuan social spendthrifts.

"republicans are the advocates of self reliance"

We all know people that have gone bankrupt because their kids got too sick for the pocket book to handle. I know of a couple that organized a raffle to raise money for their daughter's medical bills, which ended up being not enough and coming too late. Depending on where you live you can see people that are clearly mentally deficient living on the streets as beggars. Can you afford a quadruple bypass? A long stay in the hospital? In an effort toward self-reliance, death rather than surgery might be the best thing for the surviving family. Is this the self-reliance you suggest?
