Don't feel so secure. The way the new Patriot Act II laws are written, nothing prevents you from being next. There is no accountability -- your house could be invaded, any guns confiscated, you dragged away with zero evidence and all results kept secret. Your only hope would be that the gov't publicizes your arrest like Padilla, otherwise you have no recourse. Some of these "terrorists" haven't even been charged, much less tried in open court. There's no way to know without due process if a mistake has been made, if it's someone's grudge, or it's a political decision to silence opposition. The current law even allows you to be executed in secret. Because I don't personally feel targeted..

I guess maybe I'm missing something.. Can you name which American citizens are being targeted, arrested, and convicted, who ARE NOT involved in terrorist (or other criminal) activities? Without public records, no one outside of gov't can. There could exist the thousand anonymous arrested reported last year, or more. The administration claims nothing requires an accounting of any sort, neither the names, nationality, or charge. You may as well ask, "How many tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians have been and are being killed?", or "what is an independent estimate of the numbers in the mass graves, and some idea of when and how they were killed, and whether civilian or soldier? Are weapons being found in the mass graves?" Even Hitler kept meticulous records of the accused and the dead. Apparently, the official DOD line is that Hussein also kept records of victims of torture and execution. What's the purpose of Rumsfeld's doctrine of no accountability for the dead and wounded?
