Very informative article, scottie. Thanks for demonstrating again the incredible degree of cognitive dissonance present in the minds of Bush-haters.

The Iraqis themselves made a deal with Russia for oil contracts in exchange for debt forgiveness with ZERO protest from the US government. In fact, Bush sent James Baker around the world to encourage Iraq's creditors to make deals with the Iraqis to help them recover from the Saddam Hussein economic mess and rejoin the global economy.

This presents a real problem for your firmly-held belief that "It's all about oil for greedy Texas Bush-backing oilmen." How can we possibly reconcile this conflict between real world events and firmly held beliefs?

Simple. Deny the real world and reassert your firmly held beliefs.

Start by distorting DoD statements about US taxpayer-funded reconstruction contracts, claiming they meant ALL contracts of any sort, dictating who the Iraqis could do business with, and then assert "this will not stand - Bush will stop it and make his grab for oil."

"Russia's exploration of oil may come with contention from the US...

"Bush still must fear a battle could erupt over Iraqi oil...

"These reserves were surely earmarked ...

"Somebody should get a Federal search warrant for the White House, and seek out Bush's hidden oil maps. Time to arrest the war criminal before he wins next year ... Republican backers will be drowning in Iraqi oil..."

Complete nonsense. The administration has said NOTHING to imply any restriction on who the Iraqis could contract with for oil exploration and development and NOTHING to indicate any displeasure over their deal with Russia. The administration has said all along that deposing Saddam is NOT about oil and they have done NOTHING that conflicts with that position.

And Russia's deal will not be the last - just today, China and Japan said they would forgive billions of dollars in Iraqi debts. I'm sure they and all the rest of the "Paris Club" hope to make it up from oil and other economic opportunities.

Your post is filled with nothing more than baseless assertions in an apparent attempt at defending and preserving that firmly held belief - that "it's all about oil." It's both informative and entertaining to see the mental contortions of Bush-haters trying to "solve" their "CD" problems.
