We knew the population within a few percentage accuracy. Overflights were conducted before and after to count buildings and flows of refugees.

And that related to carpet bombing entire cities and industrial zones indiscriminately..

But now we're talking about pinpoint targeting, modest use of bomb tonnage, and relatively few casualities (regrettable even those may be).

And you think that somehow we're deliberately hiding 10 of thousands of casualities?

Maybe the Iranians, who should know how many people lived in Bam, are hiding the numbers of actual victims who died in that earthquake?? Or maybe they are overstating the number in order to obtain more money and assistance?

Politicizing body counts was exposed in the Pentagon Papers.

No doubt about it.. That's how a war of attrition is fought.. You figure out how many you have lost as compared to how many you figure the enemy has lost..

But even to this day, no DOD official can accurately cite the number of casualities N.Vietnam suffered during that war..

And you think the Allies could have conducted such a count in near realtime, merely by looking at photos?

I, again, say that the responsibility for accounting for Iraqi civilian and military losses belongs to the Iraqis, not the US. I'm more interested in how many Iraqis are finally being able to rebuild their lives, find jobs, and actually own the title to their property..
