Tough to find something that is a big employer - I have Naspers media conglomerate (NPSN) and Telkom SA (TKG) which employ lots of black Africans and provide news, TV and phone service for millions. Their impact will spread around the region over time.

I am told that Nestle and Unilever are big in the food business. But they are huge international firms with interests everywhere.

The SOA closed-end fund has big chunks of mining and energy concerns along with other SA conglomerates.
