Any theistic proof is inadequate without tapping into self evidence.

There is a considerable body of research into brain functioning which shows that there is a physical region of the brain which is devoted to spiritual/religious issues, and which is active to some degree in every person studied, including those who profess not to have identified the underlying spirituality of their lives.

A lay book on the issue is "Why God Won't Go Away: by Newberg et. al., though it was published in 2001 and doesn't incorporate later research which confirms and strengthens its underlying point.
