<<<Amazon River of cash flow>> 22.000m3/second dumped into the Atlantic just to give you the right perspective.<>

ElM, I missed the first 3 days of 2004 due to what wasn't apparently sars, but might as well have been for how badly I felt.

Things can go wrong down the Amazon. While peacefully going about one's business, dipping into the cash flow or riding along it, robbers and disease can make things take a turn for the worse.

Peter Blake, American's Cup winner and environmental campaigner, was murdered by a gang of thieves on his yacht on the Amazon when he tried to fight them off with a gun. It's a tough life on the Amazon and in the Beijing cybercafe, with thieves and disease waiting to murder. They don't care about peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love - they are still in the biological world, red in tooth and claw.

I saw Hu Jintao's happy new year speech in which he declared war on Taiwan if they don't do as he says. I also saw Kofi's happy new year speech where he even said "Happy new year" but in such a serious, declining-tone ending that it sounded like a funeral service. Somebody not understanding English would not be expecting all the good stuff in 2004 from his message. He certainly wasn't grinning and cheer-leading.

I missed the Queen's speech for Xmas and King George's.

Plus ca change for 2004 I guess.

From the frontlines, down at the Amazon,
