You may indeed have little interest in knowing the value of a dollar over time. That's your choice. Keeping track of the value of a dollar over time allows me to maintain a semblance of reality in investment return and future choices. It enables economists to make valid comparisons over time relative to incomes, wealth, and economic efficiency. Without this benchmark, economic statistics are little more than fantasy propaganda announcements of the latest achievements of Glorious Leader and the Party's economic GOSPLAN fullfilled. Up becomes down and as Big Brother counseled, Ignorance becomes Strength, Freedom is Slavery and War is Peace.
