Saddam became president in 1979, when Jimmy Carter was President. Reagan came into power in 1980, same time that Saddam entered into the war with Iran. Then Reagan, Bush I and Rumsfeld favored Saddam and gave him support in the war against Iran. It was under the Reagan and Bush I administrations that Saddam found his real power, funded in large part by the US. How do you think that Saddam got that poison gas? The result was Saddam getting too big for his britches, and invading Kuwait near the middle of Bush I's administration. Orca informationclearinghouse.info
