My take is that Ashcroft has discovered that none of the journalists involved in Plamegate are going to talk and that therefore it will be no problem to come up with a finding that the perpetrators cannot be discovered. Since this finding will be scandalous for the Bushies, Ashcroft steps aside and the Bushies pick Fitzgerald, a non-Bushie, to be the fall guy. He won't discover the identity of the mysterious high figures in the White House who outed Plame and the heat will fall on him. Typical "dirty tricks" strategy played out to the end by experts.

IMO, Josh Marshall is right on target with his latest comments...

I nonconcur. Marshall seems to be pussyfooting on this issue. Joe Wilson has come out and said Karl Rove is the guilty party and Wilson wants to see him "frog marched" out of the White House in handcuffs. Why is Marshall taking such an insufferably timid position?

This whole thing could go away in one day if George Bush would just do the honorable thing and fire his evil mentor, Karl Rove, and hand him over for prosecution.
