underscores a simple White House maxim these days: with an election approaching, even a president who came to office assailing government regulation cannot do too much to protect consumers.


Gotta love it. Bush cannot be for consumer safety because he's Bush. Not even in a minor way. Must be the election coming up, yeah, that's it.

I agree with you that the tone of that Times article was inappropriate.

We see the "news analysis" tool used quite a bit. I look on the bright side. At least they know that regular news articles aren't supposed to be biased. That's more than I can say for some. I thought this one had too much of an edge, though, to be anywhere but on the op-ed pages.
