dabum, thank you for the comment. It made my day, even though I don't remember what it was I said either. :)

PS: I can think of a couple of comments made by relative strangers decades ago that influenced me. Interesting how that works.

Regards
Gottfried

<<It's funny how people can be chatting in a group or individually and someone says something that changes another persons life for the better, without even knowing they said anything important at the time.>>

Excellent point. Despite having success in the 90's and even well into 2001, deep down I knew I was undisciplined and knew enough of TA only to be dangerous. I got myself into a hole and started making larger more risky bets to get myself out (which only put me deeper in). Then someone on this board posted an article about this very type of behavior being akin to gambling.
So I took a long hard look at myself and decided to withdraw all of my positions. It finally sunk in that when you play in the stock market you need to set and follow hard and fast rules and be totally unemotional with your decision making.
This led me to start tinkering with "mechanical" models, of which I shared my early works with several interested parties on this board. Two people who have strong Excel and/or programming skills worked with me, to the point that we developed some models that were quite promising, and beyond a certain point I no longer shared my models with just anybody who wanted to see them.
Despite uncovering several other disciples of mechanical modeling over on IHUB, I mentioned the subject on this board
a few times and get several responses to the effect of "mechanical models will ultimately fail", or "TA is a mixture of art and science and only a part rocket engineer/part witch doctor will be successful".
After so much of this intolerance, my appearance on this thread became infrequent, only posting an occasional political comment or link.
Perhaps it is time for me to say sayonara to HTP. It once was an effective coalition of different ideas and views, but all those people with those distinct viewpoints have moved on to be with others of their ilk, it seems.

Maybe it's time to shut the old plastic thread down for good? We've slowed to a trickle, and I always feel guilty when I check in with nothing to add.

As Dabum has mentioned, TCNet is our new home for a lot of very good reasons. I hope to see many of you there or around other boards. If any of you come to TCNet (or the end of day program, TC2000), be sure to let DB or KB know. On TCNet we even have a private club where you can relax in your pajamas and the drinks are free!!

In addition to GF's site, I've been very comfortable at the Gizzard thread where people seem to be looking for the same kinds of stocks I am: low cap bottoming stocks with high betas in a burgeoning hot sector. It's a great fraternity/sorority--I don't think anybody has a fundamental clue about stocks in which they have 10,000 to 80,000 share positions. LOL.

Subject 20684

Although I check in on the BBR thread every few days, I no longer feel much alignment with the energy business. Things evolve, things change.

Since DB has been educating me for about 3+ years in his approach, now I find myself equally or perhaps more obligated to Gottfried for whatever it was he said which lit the fire under DB. Even if GF can't remember what it was he said. I hope to one day encourage and help people in an unconscious and serendipitous way--it is one of my goals in life. I was happy to encourage Dabum to take the TC2000 (then TCNet) step earlier this year. One true thing I learned from the Telechart experience is you can never stop learning, and you will learn best if you keep on the lookout for new enthusiasms, and try to place yourself in the company of people with similar enthusiasms and like intentions. I just had an hour's phone call this morning from a Cayman Islands investor who wants to share ideas and strategies; he'll be in the club.

In any event, in the spirit of auld lang syne, this isn't a sad parting but a happy one, and a grateful one. A fraternity that started on the old Yahoo GW thread with Dabum, Kollmhn and a few others has traveled through cybertime & -space to this.

I will still be on SI and this thread is open to any and all who want to continue using it.

In 2004 and beyond, God bless us, God bless us every one.
