Alabama late 1960s. Several "fish camps" sold fried catfish with all the extras for only $1.25 back then. Also ate a few times at an oyster bar in a small town close to Florida. A dozen oysters shucked as fast as you could eat them for $ .50. Those prices are long gone.

I've had them years ago at a place in Peoria that did a nice job of cooking them. It seems now the catfish that are served are bigger and absorb way too much grease. I tend to go for filets from bluegills, crappie and walleye.

There is a restaraunt in Okeechobee (town on north end of Lake Okeechobee) that has an ALL YOU CAN EAT meal of fried catfish complete with vegetables, slaw, beverage for $6 every Sunday. When I visit my brother there we always go for dinner before I drive home STUFFED. jdn
