As long as you allow for people not to HAVE to listen, after they've heard what you have to say. I think you only need to listen once, and then you are allowed to think, "Ick, that contrary view is pretty repugnant to me, but I guess someone with a different basis for their world view could have that."

Of course you don't go on and on at that point, you just stop, recognize the difference, and move on. That's the adult thing to do, imo.
