Good post MSI. I run my thoughts by that type of thinking often. But to be true your view, you shouldnt condemn james baker, the deal with khadafi, the accomodation with iran, the attempt at a deal with NK etc etc. which are also hallmarks of the bush policy. Please take bush out of the equation and you will see the actual balance in the policy. And by the way, i was never talking about killing arabs as you imply--its just the terrorists. And the point i was making about bin laden is that we should be more not less active in bringing him down. Mike

PS Read the colin powell article which says much the same thing. Preemption is a small part of the policy. It was applied in iraq to make a point about what defiance by a terror state to the UN in this case would entail. Some opponents think it was oil, some the danger of iraqi wmds(if the existed as the world believed then) getting into the wrong hands by design), some the torture--for me it just set a bar. You may not get it but several arab and muslim leaders already have--pakistan, libya, iran, syria are examples. And last i looked NK had toned down the rhetoric.
Anyway MSI, have a Happy and safe New Years. I am a bit grumpy today as the new year approaches. Hopefully my immediate fears for tonight will not be realized. Mike@thehatebushrhetoric-isasselfdefeating-asthehateclintonrhetoric-wasafewyearsago

"The stories in Weekly Standard are at odds with everything else we know from intel and DOD, and certainly the rest of the world."

NO, they just stand in stark contrast to your
misperception of reality.

Those leaked memos are from Undersecretary of Defense for
Policy Douglas J. Feith to Senators Pat Roberts and Jay
Rockefeller, the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate
Intelligence Committee. It was written in response to a
request from the committee as part of its investigation
into prewar intelligence claims made by the
administration. Intelligence reporting included in the 16-
page memo comes from a variety of domestic and foreign
agencies, including the FBI, the Defense Intelligence
Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the National
Security Agency.

"Rumsfeld memo reveals, there is a real growth of terrorist recruits from military attacks. "

You are overstating the case & ignoring the fact that this
war on terror isn't just about killing them & nothing
else. That's like your oversimplification of, 'Iraq was
only about WMD's. The global war on terror is about
cutting off financing, eliminating safe havens for them to
gather, train & deploy, ET AL.
