There are rather serious differences from Vietnam also. You think the presence of a bordering hostile power (N. Vietnam) backed by a protecting and supporting superpower (the Soviet Union) had nothing to do with what happened in Vietnam? Or the length of the struggle? Suppose the USSR had not backed N. Vietnam and the US had been free to invade and destroy the support it poured southward. What then?
