One might argue that it is Veneman's job to lie. The feds certainly aren't going to openly admit that eating their crap is going to kill you - not until people start dropping like flies. When Brits started dying, the authorities there said exactly the same things the authorities here are saying - until they were forced to slaughter hundreds of thousands of cows and burn them in the fields. The truth is, we have known the sordid facts about how American food is handled for very many years and despite this many Americans have continued to eat it, blood-fed, dung-fed and all. Now we may be in for a very rude awakening ten years from now as a result of our intentional ignorance. Too bad...
