Sorry for the confusion. I misused the term. Yes, I meant "selling to raise tax money", which I see frequently among those with large amounts of money in stock or options. Lots of people I know have tax liabilities from 2003 (from appreciated stock) but already spent the proceeds. They need to sell more stock to pay for the taxes, but usually wait until Jan 2nd.

Others have profits they want to take, but will wait until Jan 2nd to delay paying taxes another year.
