No one should dispute what you wrote -- the terrorists are united by Islam (not to read all Muslims) and while the civilized world hedges their bets.

It may be a fanciful departure from reality to believe the international community can suppress greed and self-interest and unite for any cause. I guess that reduced the situation to the classic divine vs. carnal nature of man. :^) Count me among the more cynical. I bet there’s a better chance of ben Laden opening a pork Bar-BQ joint in the Catskills.

International cooperation has always been an illusion of convenience. The UN provides a particularly farcical modern-day example of that charade.

Consider the friendly EU nations, with our French friends from Normandy claiming moral superiority. They would delight at American failure any where and anytime.

Presumably, Chirac, sword in hand, revels in self-gratification while envisioning himself prancing to the forefront of the international community -- just as his eyes begin to glaze over. Perish that thought; particularly if you are familiar with French leadership.
