I see your point of view but would have to disagree with your statement that terrorism cannot kill on a mass basis. Perhaps you are not referring to the act that incites terror.

Semantics aside, murder of 3000 on 9/11 with the potential threat for much worse in the future particularly if the nuclear threat materializes, means that we cannot shut our eyes to this.

Why does it have to be either fight terror or fight drunk drivers?

With all due respect, if we take the inefficiency out of government, we can easily do both.

As for rights that we may have to give up, I'm certainly squeamish about giving up any rights. However, realism and logic requires reassessment rather than sitting back and looking the other way pretending that a threat does not exist.
