(s) General (Retired) Clark left the military on early-out and under some pretty wierd circumstances that are not quite clear so I will not broach the subject, What I want to talk about today is this set of bizarre comments in regard to 9/11. I think it is clear that he has some "splaining to do". (June 15, 2003) that on 9/11 "I got a call at my home'' saying that when he was to appear on CNN, "You've got to say this is connected'' to Iraq. "It came from the White House, it came from people around the White House. It came from all over.'' So he is suggesting a conspiratorial call from the "white house" telling him to appear on CNN and connect Iraq to 9/11. Really? Well then why did he say this on July 1st, when asked who, exactly, called him... "A fellow in Canada who is part of a Middle Eastern think tank.'' (There is no such Canadian institution.) Anyway, who "from the White House''? "I'm not going to go into those sources. ... People told me things in confidence that I don't have any right to betray.'' Then on July 18, a retraction?: "No one from the White House asked me to link Saddam Hussein to Sept. 11.'' A contradiction and admission of a lie? Did he misspeak? Wait theres more, in August he retracts his retraction...I'm starting to get dizzy from the spin. Aug. 25: It came from "a Middle East think tank in Canada, the man who's the brother of a very close friend of mine in Belgium. He's very well connected to Israeli intelligence. I haven't changed my position. There's no waffling on it. It's just as clear as could be.'' Wait a minute, a double-reverse-retraction followed by a forward pass to a different source entirely? In football it is called a "flea-flicker", which is a classic mis-direction running play. In politics it is called "spin" which is political code for a "lie".You remind me of the cigarette companies who used to argue there was NO PROOF of a link between cigarette smoking and disease. When a human case of mad cow presents itself, you argue there is NO PROOF it was caused by diseased beef.
