HIGH-VALUE TARGETS CAPTURED IN AL ANBAR PROVINCE

AR RUTBAH, Iraq – Elements of 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment captured Abu Mohammed on Jan. 01. Abu Mohammed was a Coalition Joint Task Force 7 high value target and a key facilitator operating in the Al Anbar Province. He is believed to be responsible for moving foreign fighters and large sums of cash throughout the area of operations.

Third ACR elements found Abu Mohammed in a cab approximately 200 meters from the international border. Mohammed and the driver were taken into custody.

In response to information surrounding the capture of Abu Mohammed, elements of 3rd ACR conducted an immediate cordon and search of a suspected foreign fighter transit point in Ar Rutbah this afternoon. The operation was conducted successfully and resulted in the capture of three additional personnel, small arms weapons, and a large amount of documents potentially linked to Abu Mohammed’s actions.

Nadine,
Perhaps the US is pressuring egypt and others(jordan, saudi arabia) to do the right thing and if they do, perhaps we can bring sharon to the table. The more i think about it, the more i am convinced that a palestinian rump state can never be the answer because it can never be successful. I have suggested the jordanians and egyptians take it back to a true 1967 solution. I know you dont think they have the political will to do so. But the threat of terror to these moderate regimes is so great, this may be the part of the fight that becomes theirs. Turn the west bankers attention to the east and to the south. Hell make them a UN mandate under jordan/egypt/saudi control until a final determination. Have sharon divert the wall to 1967/campdavid/tava borders. Create a free trade zone that includes these countries, Israel, SA, iraq and potentially syria. Put the saudis in charge of religious places. Create a religious counsel in jerusalem that includes jews, muslims, christians and orthodox christians to guarantee all holy sights.
The mideast needs bold thinking that combines a desire for democracy, freedom etc with reform of existing regimes. mike

If this is true (I don't trust the word of Palestinian officials alone), it just shows that Egypt has too much of its self-importance wrapped up in these talks to stop,

I wonder, Nadine. We have the "bumping into trees while going through the forest," problem. It is very difficult to figure out what is going on in a week by week appraisal of it. The Egyptians are putting money and, more important, prestige, into the Pals. They are getting treated badly by them, and they can see the pals are losing. Maybe there is some movement. TWT.
