All we had onboard the submarine was a 1st class corpsmen. He could do minor surgery if it was a true emergency. In fact there wasn't much he wasn't capable of in a pinch.

I've met many Dr's in my life that I would trust less then Petty Officer 1st Class Collins. Best pecker checker in the Navy:)

Seriously he was great!

My best "patched up a Marine fast" story:

One Friday night I had the night shift in Okinawa at the emergency clinic.... a Marine comes in on a stretcher after walking though the plate glass doors at the NCO club. It took 171 stitches to close him up.... looked like he hit a meat grinder...

When the MPs asked him what happened... he said that he didn't feel like opening the doors....

It got him the rest of the weekend in the brig.
