I suppose that with the stepped up security at these events that a terrorist act would be made a bit more difficult. But it would still seem to me that if someone were determined enough that some form of a suicide attack could have been made. Look at Israel where they have the most stringent security, yet a suicide bomber still finds his mark every week or so. Maybe the terrorists are going to wait a few years, until the security is relaxed for a strike? Or maybe the terrorists could have struck, but chose not to for what ever reason. Maybe it's not the right kind of target. I mean a crowd of celebrating people? Are they not aware of the potential backlash by even Muslims over such targets? I guess the terrorists have shown that they will consider civilians, even partying civilians as targets given the Bali bombings. But so far in attacking the United States, the terrorists have limited their targets to military and government installations. With the possible exception of the twin towers, which was seen as some sort of symbol of American Banking, investment and trading concerns. This was to the terrorist a grand symbol of American culture. Now there was the one plane that hit the pasture in Pennsylvania, but it's target was said to have been the Whitehouse. But in analyzing their target selection, it seems that their primary focus, at least up to this point, has been large institutional, government and military targets. Now this does not presuppose that they will continue to ignore large gatherings of people, but at least for the moment they do not seem to fit the pattern of targets selected heretofore. We're not really privy to the "noise" that intelligence officers refer to, but does anyone know of any specific threat against a large gathering of civilians? Like stadiums or celebrations? I guess there was the one specific threat against Las Vegas. That might be considered a large civilian orientated target. Anyway just thinking aloud here, trying to figure out what the terrorists might be thinking of hitting next. And if the terror alert has been raised to High, what does it mean to the average American. I think we should be concerned with airtravel, as this more has been specifically mentioned as a preferred method of attack...ala 9-11. Anybody have any thoughts as to the likelyhood of terrorist targets in the US? How about any thoughts on the terror alert system? Does this really help the average citizen? Or is it more of a law enforcement tool? Your thoughts? Orca
