Whatever happened to "accountability rests with the individual, not society" ?

Kumar, I mentioned briefly yesterday the difference between accountability and performance management systems. In common parlance, they are the same thing so people not in the biz, unlike those for whom these are terms of art, react as you and the author did. I imagine that the resolution in question was framed by "experts" in this area and they are making a--dare I say--nuanced distinction that is not apparent to regular folks. Accountability systems DO belong at the group level. Performance management systems evaluate the performance of individuals.

Now, whether the teachers who voted for this resolution were voting for the term-of-art version or if they just don't want to risk their jobs by being evaluated, I couldn't say. What I can say is that the resolution is not as ridiculous on its face as it appears. Technically, it is consistent with the application of accountability systems to business environments.
