<What makes you think we are saving innocent lives?>

The War Party gets a warm and fuzzy feeling about themselves, when they tell each other they are Bearing The White Man's Burden. Bringing the light of civilization to the savages.

Like I said before, The mass graves in Iraq and Afghanistan. The officially murdered, tortured and raped in both countries. 3000 NYC victims. They make me think the US and partners are saving lives.

Now, about this matter of "bringing the light of civilization to the savages," as you so quaintly phrase it. ("Savages" is word I'd never use). As far as Hussein, the Taliban and al Qaida are concerned: they reject any civilization; both the one they come out of, and ours. They, their colleagues, their deeds, and their victims, need the light of any civilization shone upon them. The more civilizations' lights, the better.

I've read on Middle East websites that the light shining on the torture and mass graves of Hussein and Taliban has given rise to "humiliation," even "rage," and "shame." Similarly with the apprehension of Hussein. This isn't surprising - what they saw was evil and very bad news. It has also caused, they say, a reevaluation by some of the support Hussein and Taliban were getting from many places in the Middle East.

My civilization might have uncovered the bastards but Middle Eastern civilization is illuminating them with their lights and their spectacles.

I'm thinking a good number of folk living there are starting to see their civilizational furniture needs replacing with more modern stuff - I'm not talking about gadgets that go bang - and their numbers will increase acceleratingly.
