They recovered a couple of AK-47s, hand grenades and an anti-aircraft missile, US military officials said.

Abdul Sattar, the mosque's imam, said the weapons were used by its guards. "They were there to protect ourselves,"

Yes, this is really funny. But I must agree with the imam on one thing - they had no business taking the nuts from imam's refrigerator.

As long as we are looking into details, let's note the name of the establishment in question - "raided the Ibn Taymiyah mosque". It is entirely up to them how to name the mosque, of course, but it's interesting that this particular mosque, which needs anti-aircraft missiles to defend herself, is named after the grandaddy of modern Islamic extremism:

Many twentieth century extremist militant movements have allowed their thought and behavior to be guided by Ibn Taymiyya's classic and literal interpretation of jihad as holy war against all non-Muslim infidels.

<<< anti-aircraft missile>>>
True story #1
The missile had fallen off the truck of a passing US convoy and was being carted away by several Baath party juveniles when Mosque members rushed out and took it away from them , along with several AK-47's and grenades.
Attempts to inform the Americans, located several blocks away, of the location of their missing missile were unsuccessful because of a language barrier.
It was decided to put up no-smoking signs and keep the weapons and several tons of other explosives in the Mosque as a safety precaution to keep them out of the hands of terrorists and prevent their use against US troops. But the Americans merely took the visible weapons and left before anyone could tell them where the other explosives were hidden.
