As I travelled around I sampled food from all the major services. Now this was in the 60's but then, based upon my experience of food tests I rated them like this:
1. Army--WORST by far (I think this is cause they have such a large service they cant afford the luxuries)
2. Navy--Not bad, not great but OK
3. USMC--Course I had the most experience there and found the food to be above average. For instance, stateside we ALWAYS had steak as a staple, then something else like spaghetti or better. On Friday's we had seafood often SHRIMP.
4. AirForce--By far the BEST. I will never forget the HUGE PRAWNS I had at one AF base messhall. Talked to an AF serviceman lately and I dont think they have it so good anymore, he didnt even know what a Prawn was.
