This coarsening of the Culture will continue. Until people get sick of it and turn away. There are precedents - a tabloid called "Natl Enquirer" used to show horrible mangled accident victims on its front page in the 60's, and petered out. Now they stick w. the "Elvis's baby found on Mars" type stories. It used to be a Communist conspiracy, now it's a right-wing conspiracy, to coarsen public debate and make people vicious enough to support endless war.... (That's what I read in the Enquirer so it must be true :)
