I would add that if you believe the housing and debt bubbles CAN be maintained,

I have mentioned before on other threads that I think the housing bubble has already been pricked (no pun intended <g>). The Detroit housing market has been weak ever since 9/11 (in the mid and higher levels), and it shows little sign of reflating. I've read of other areas that have similar stats. I know even the Boston suburbs are slowing down. I think the recent housing sales numbers support this.

My guess is as the malaise spreads across the country, it will be impossible to restart.
