Bubba, I wouldn't mind if they were "eastern cultured". It's not "western" to refrain from hoiking anywhere. Civilization and manners are pretty much universal. If I visited Jay's house and hoiked on his living room floor, I doubt that he'd think, "Cool, Mqurice is becoming Eastern cultured".

As far as being born with a silver spoon, I'd say that's only relative to the worst of lives. Most of us earn any use of silver spoons we achieve and by living in communities with others who adopt and enforce similar civilized social norms we can use a lot of silver service.

I can see Chinese culture has got a way to go before it catches up with the QUALCOMM wealth-creating style. I see no threat to the USA's economic pre-eminence. Doing things on the backs of poorly paid people will get a portion [the ones doing the hiring] of China up to a certain low level, but even economies of scale will not overcome the underlying social attitudes which limit wealth.

The USA has plenty of Enrons, poorly paid people and so on too, but it also has the $ill Gates, Warren Buffett, Irwin Jacobs, Albert Einstein types [in passing, I note a near-monopoly on Jews which seems no bad thing - Hitler was a real moron getting rid of his most valuable resource = creative brainpower] who create huge wealth out of nothing. Sure, China invented gunpowder and loves building walls, but a vast panopoly of creativity comes out of the USA [where hordes of creative individuals go to get their chance to do their thing].

Threatening to murder Taiwanese if they don't do as they are told isn't a great wealth-creation scheme either.
