Wow. 5 years living expenses pure cash. That's a lot.

We've historically kept about 6 months living expenses in emergency cash. We recently received advice suggesting that we not keep so much cash, but instead take out a Home Equity Line of Credit, which runs about 3% interest, and use that as an emergency fund should it be necessary.

Have you tried this? If so, what do you see as the pros and cons?
