That's where my info came from; it's the first book I've read of primate behavior. Hmm... did Jane visit any local zoos? Plenty of observations there of Chimps flinging their doo-doo on spectators. I'm not trying to rub this in Jacob, but merely to show you that you continue to make a habit of uttering opinions that do not reflect true reality. Goodall loved Chimps.. She was biased towards them. And when she apparently says they "abhor feces", she must have ignored their greater love of throwing things, even feces when other objects are not available. Sure, maybe in nature when they have a variety of clubs and stones available, they won't "grab a gob" and fling it, but they don't seem to abhor their own feces as Goodall claims. I can honestly say that, in such a condition, Nothing would convince me to fling my feces at spectators, let alone even picking it up. That's my definition of abhor.. :0) I took 5 minutes and did a cursory websearch on Chimps throwing feces.. You could have done this (as you should do to limit so many of the inane and inaccurate opinions you spew with so many topics.) It's hard to give your opinion ANY credibility when it's clear that you're unwilling to perform even the most basic research aimed at confirming/disputing your opinion against the facts. Many chimpanzees in zoos and other forms of captivity will show the following examples of behavior with more frequency: over grooming skin patches on arms and legs, continual rocking, spitting, and feces throwing. cwu.edu Male chimps like to throw missiles-whatever is handy, generally sticks and stones. (Like the inmates of college fraternity houses, they also occasionally throw food.) Females are much less interested in missiles. Chimps would throw stones at the visitors who gawk at them in the traditional kind of zoo-if they had stones. As it is, all they have is feces. When wild chimps are presented with a fairly realistic mechanical leopard, after a reassurance frenzy of screams, hugs, and mutual mountings, they find appropriate clubs and beat the effigy to death-or at least until they knock the stuffing out. Or they'll pelt it with stones. (In the same circumstance, baboons will furiously attack the leopard, but without a thought of using clubs. Baboons just don't know about tools.) mc.maricopa.edu
