Raspberry, to his great credit, seems to actively listen to other perspectives. His columns are often based on the evaluation of notions that he picked up from his reading. It's been interesting to watch his thinking evolve over the years, unlike so many columnists who get stuck in their own rhetoric. A late friend of mine who was a friend of his, a woman with a good mind and disposition of her own, had enormous respect for him.
